Segamat, I'm coming!!!
I'll be away for a few days to explore new food track in the south. An hour from now, I'll be boarding the south-bound train to Segamat, a border town of Johor state dominated by Mandarin speaking Chinese. I'd lived in that town for two years and the uniqueness of the local delicacies of Segamat never fails to fascinate me. Now, visiting Segamat has become an annual pilgrimage to me as I will be meeting a bunch of buddies whom I miss dearly since the day I left the town.
Meeting people is one thing and tracing back my 'makan-makan' experience in Segamat is another important mission of my trip.

Very Fruity-licious Tarts
In conjunction of the coming Christmas season, many bakeries have come up with various types of attractive pastries to draw in more customers. As a pastry lover, I never stop going round the town to look for new inventions to enrich my pastry eating journey. One of the bakeries that impresses me the most with its innovative and passion about pastry is La Promise.
On my way back to Ipoh, I exit at the Changkat Jering interchange to send one of my colleagues home. I chanced along Theatre Road and saw the striking signboard of La Promise. Abby told me that a handful of new pastry has been introduced recently namely Lemon Meringue Pie, Apple Crumble Tart, Opera Cake, Minced Pies etc. I was already salivating when she mentioned about the word 'PASTRY'. I went into the shop but was disappointed because almost 90% of the pastry was sold out. May I be so bold as to ask to change the idiom 'selling like hotcakes' to 'selling like hot pastries'?Without much choice, I bought a fruit tart and a mini Lemon Meringue Pie. The lemon meringue pie was so tiny that you can easily insert the whole piece of it into your mouth. The sweetness of the meringue, the sourness of the lemon custard and the crispiness of the pastry are simply irresistible. I can easily wolf down half a dozen if I don't need to watch my diet. It's definitely one the best lemon meringue pie I've ever tasted.

Day Trip in KK
Have you ever flown yourself to Sabah simply for the sake of eating? I just did that. I bought an air ticket from Air Asia and took the earliest flight from LCCT to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, I flagged down a cab to take me to the city centre. It's morning... What comes into your mind after spending about 3 hours at 2,000 ft above sea level? EAT! My first stop was Kedai Kopi Kinabalu. I ordered the usual staple of Sabahan - Kolok Mee, for breakfast.
We then proceeded to Borneo 1945 Museum Kopitiam, also known as Borneo Bagpackers. Their signature coffee is Borneo White Coffee. It is a must-try item as the coffee is freshly ground and brewed upon order. The toast bread toasted on charcoal fire is also a never-to-be-missed.
White Coffee (RM6.00)
Toast Bread (RM3.00)
Stir fried "Shu Chai Choi"
