Oldies are Goldies

Renowned as one of Petaling Street's the most dynamic eateries, Hon Kee Famous Porridge is truly a legend. Dating back to 1949, this humble porridge stall at Petaling Street has been serving their warm, moist, easy to digest porridge to KL-ites who grew up eating congee on the congested street of the hustle bustle KL city centre. Today, Hon Kee has made its way to expensive shopping malls while expanding its business to the high society. Their targeted consumers are no longer limited to old-timers living in the downtown but also the younger generations who have hardly a chance to savour some old comfort food and nostalgic nosh in the days of our grandmothers. Though we do have a choice of enjoying the good old food at the posh shopping malls housing all the upscale restaurants, I still prefer sitting in a roadside stall, sweating and scalding my taste buds while tucking in a heart warming bowl of porridge.

Hon Kee Famous Porridge Stall @ Petaling Street

Porridge served with fried pork intestine

Look at how horribly generous the serving is...

Hon Kee's famous fresh sliced fish porridge
(Raw fish porridge which serves thinly sliced raw fish and piping hot rice porridge separately)

Add the paper thin fish slices to the piping hot porridge and let the heat and steam from the porridge itself to lightly cook the fish. Count from 1 to 10 and fish out the "hidden treasure". The fish that are just done taste wonderful.
