Baumkūchen バウムクーヘン

Baumkūchen / バウムクーヘン / 年輪蛋糕 is the most popular layered cake in Japan. The making of this cake involves a high level of skill and a few complicated steps.
1. Brush even layers of batter on the spit and then rotate the spit around a heat source.
2. Pour a new layer of batter when the initial layer turns brown.
3. Remove the cake from the spit when all the batter has been used up.
4. Cut the cake vertically into 2-inch rings.

The golden rings which resemble the annual growth rings on a tree give the cake its German name Baumkūchen (literally translated as log cake).

You can identify the age of this cake by counting its annual growth rings. *lol
