Our Delicious Afternoon

At the crowded Mid Valley Megamall, we could either go to a restaurant or a cafe and it would likely be the same dining experience. We might very well have chosen Delicious Café because we were walking towards Gardens and turned right upon seeing the minimalistic name of Delicious Cafe. This place was probably packed at lunch time and al fresco seating was equally hard to come by. We settled for an inside table, by an elegant glass case holding beautiful cakes and mouth-watering pastries.

From where we sat, we had a front row view of the vast selection of desserts seducing us with an overstated sense of indulgence and a strong feeling of guilt for having or not having it.

A wide array of cakes and desserts in the display case

We began with Turkey Ham & Cheese Toastie that came appetizing and excellent in taste. We don’t know how the cheese melts its way between the oven hot toast and ham but this way seemed as good, if not better, to lock in the taste.
Turkey Ham & Cheese Toastie @ RM16.90
We shared two types of spaghettini, the Traditional Tomato Spaghettini and the most down-to-earth Aglio Olio Spaghettini. This has got to be one of the more authentic pasta we have had in KL.
Traditional Tomato Spaghettini @ RM17.90

Aglio Olio Spaghettini @ RM15.90

The dessert always receives the most attention from all of us. We were seen gulping down the main course just to speed up the delivery of the Banoffee Pie, which was intolerably sweet. We kept pushing it to the others, but ended up leaving a huge chunk of toffee and banana behind.

Banoffee Pie @ RM10.90

Cafe Latte @ RM9.90

Double Espresso @ RM7.90

Pretentiously good dim sum @ Jaya Palace

Jaya Palace in PJ is not what I would call a hotspot for dim sum eateries. Proudly standing along the congested Federal Highway, Jaya Palace is the only dim sum restaurant I do not mind forking out extra for the parking service. Occupying the premises of Menara LYL on Jalan 51A/223, the restaurant has a modern, stylish décor with much use of intense wood colours. It is an exquisitely elegant restaurant and looks simply attractive at the first sight. Gone are those days of desperately trying to flag down the fast moving dim sum carts, Jaya Palace serves its dim sum the ala carte style which requires diners to wait for the dim sum to cook before the baskets of steaming morsels are delivered to your table. In other words, there is no overcooking business here as every item is made fresh upon order. Service is fast and it takes only the time of reading a headline or two.

Levain Boulangerie and Patisserie

One of the most picturesque French-style patisseries in the heart of the hustle, bustle, rush and roar Kuala Lumpur, Levain froze Mum and I in place the first time we saw it. This patisserie-cum-café is well worth a visit. Located in the middle of rows of uniquely designed bungalows, this architectural gem has retained its original décor: High ceilings with a neo-classical touch. We enjoyed our cuppa made from only the freshest beans of Lavazza and pick our choice of delicious pastries beneath the fragrance of fresh bread and butter, to a backdrop of soothing soft music as we admired the enchanting paintings on the walls. In Levain’s havens of self-indulgence, we discovered hand-made cakes baked in a special stone oven, continental breakfasts, wide-selection of sandwiches, pasta cooked with sauces to die for, the finest coffees and a charming atmosphere that appeal to all coffee and pastry lovers.

Tempting. The idea of those stone oven-baked fresh bread and pastry caught my attention, but some fine viennoiseries and perhaps a deft touch with the classic pastries have got me truly hooked. How much I wish I could work there as… the owner of the patisserie.

The Sound of Music Musical in Malaysia

Mum and I love watching musicals. Whenever there is a musical show in town, we will surely make a beeline for it. If you are wondering how many musicals we have been to all these years, I can assure you that we both see eye to eye that we had hardly missed any shows staged in Malaysia ever since I could afford the tickets to musicals. Just to name a few, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Grease, Mama Mia etc. The latest addition to our list is The Sound of Music from London, performing at The Plenary Hall of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 21st to 26th June.

Lousy Breakfast Buffet @ Grand Continental Hotel

The recent school holiday was unusually boring and disappointing. There ain't any overseas trip, exciting discovery of good eating place, in spite of my short trip with the Prefectorial Board to Penang, another well-known place for some good local fare. Under the constraint of limited budget, we were arranged to stay at the Grand Continental Hotel in the downtown of Penang. There is nothing worth mentioning except their breakfast buffet which is so far the lousiest I'd had.

Cornflakes, Rice Krispies and Koko Krunch

Teochew porridge

Fried kuey teow

Sausages and omelette

Toast, hard boiled eggs, chicken curry, samosa and omelette.

Butter cake and chocolate cake

Fruits

Last but not least... coffee!!!
