Breakfast @ Kim Gary, AEON Station 18

I was quite disappointed with the newly opened AEON Station 18. Since AEON Station 18 is the largest, latest and 'hippest' shopping mall in Ipoh, I'd expect a better shopping environment with more international brands commonly found in KL or Penang. However, the more I anticipated, the more disappointment I got.

Kim Gary has been my all time favourite whenever I visit KL because of its wide varieties of food and great taste. The quality of food in most outlets is quite consistent so I had faith in the newest outlet at Station 18. However, the Ipoh outlet is probably the only exception. The ingredients were not fresh, the service was slow and the staff were totally incompetent. Since AEON Station 18 is 40 minutes drive from Bercham, I will not consider a revisit. It's not worth driving a long distance to shop at another lousy mall.

Autumn Stroll in Hong Kong - Wai Kee Noodle Cafe

Whenever people tell me that they are going to Hong Kong, I am usually kind enough to give them a piece of sound advice, that they should not go for blood test before and after their trip. As the world is getting smaller, and the people are generally more literate, issues concerning health have become more reachable and thus the intake of certain food which is widely consumed decades ago is disappearing in our lives gradually. Food that our grandparents gobbled down happily in their younger days are now being branded 'unhealthy'. There comes along many other terms such as 'oily', 'sweet', 'salty', 'high cholesterol' (a term which has been highly abused and misinterpreted, scaring people from all over the world because nobody is there to explain to them the difference between HDL and LDL).

Being a foodie heaven as it is, Hong Kong is not a place for you to merely walk and watch. That means you must EAT! It doesn't matter whether you are taking a double breakfast, or six meals per day, for as long as your body has the cavity for food, you must allow yourself to EAT!

The food at Wai Kee Noodle Cafe is certainly not designed for the health-conscious group because the ingredients that they chuck in are harmful to your health. Just to name a few: Luncheon meat, ham, double egg, lots of beef and LIVER!

Each bowl of noodle is cooked on the spot upon order. During the cooking process, lots and lots of pig liver will be 'scooped' using a large soup ladle into the pot of boiling stock. The liver is allowed to cook together with the noodle until the colour of the stock changes from clear to cloudy. Obviously, the 'essence' of the liver has diffused into the noodle and stock so you can imagine how flavourful the noodle is. Back to the question: How much cholesterol does a hundred gram of liver contain?

Business is brisk and service is fast but during peak hours, you may want to munch on some appetiser while waiting for the noodle to cook. So, the waitress will recommend something 'light' and sweet - the Kaya-filled French Toast. Layered with homemade kaya (the owner claimed that he uses only DUCK EGGS in the making of his kaya), the bread is deep-fried, topped with a slab of butter and drizzled with plenty of maple syrup. Back to the question: How much cholesterol does a set of French toast contain?

Brekky No.2

This is a very simple meal to prepare as it contains only some commonly available ingredients in every refrigerator. After several rounds of calculations (which led to the murder of brain cells - not logical-mathematics minded according to Howard Gardner), I went to 'chat chai' - literally translated as little seven (7-11) to buy a loaf of bread which costs merely RM2.30. This is one of the best deal I've made throughout the week for it will last me for at least 3 days without having to spend anything extra on food. I took out two slices of the loaf and cracked an egg into the bowl. Sprinkled with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper, I gave it a good stir. Later, I then spread adequate amount of peanut butter onto the bread slices, sandwiched  them and immersed them into the beaten egg mixture. Did not want to oversoak the bread to prevent it from becoming soggy, I drained the bread for a few seconds and transferred it straight into the pan with preheated oil.
Dished it up after frying for 2 minutes, I drizzled the FRENCH TOAST with some Golden syrup and ...... Let's tuck in!

Authentic Hong Kong Breakfast Set from Kim Gary

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant
The Breakfast Menu features 7 sets of breakast range from simple sandwiches, French toast to a more hearty choice such as the American Breakfast and Nissin Noodle Set.

Each breakfast set comes with either a cup of tea or coffee. You have a choice between cold and hot version of these drinks. The coffee served here is better known as Honolulu Coffee originated from the special coffee blend of Honolulu Cafe in Hong Kong. The coffee is flavoured with evaporated milk and this produces a silky smooth taste which is very pleasant to the palate.
The french toast from Kim Gary definitely deserves a compliment as it is crispy on the outside but fluffy in the inside. You hardly develop a feeling of guilt upon tucking in this item as it is surprisingly not oily at all.
The American Breakfast set comes with two fried eggs, two sausages, a piece of ham and a spoonful of baked beans. The taste of this item is quite the same as the others out there.
The Macaroni and Ham set has a companient of two fried eggs and two slice of toast sandwiched with butter.
