Cheap cheap deal @ school canteen

What can you do with RM1.50 nowadays? If you can list out ten items or food which you can buy with only RM1.50, you can probably save more than enough for your future. As for me, RM1.50 is what I am paying for a breakfast set that comprises a large piece of cake and a glass of drink.

Black Coffee @ RM0.80
Kiam kuih (loosely translated as salty cake) @ RM0.70

Taiping Nyonya Kuih

Situated about 65km from Ipoh, the foodie heaven, Taiping is also a popular eating place among gluttons from other parts of the country. Though not all types of food are nice, Taiping Nyonya kuih is perhaps the best compared to the more famous states where Nyonya kuih originated from, such as Penang and Malacca.

Tong Kee Full Moon Gift Pack

One of my colleagues who recently gave birth to a baby girl surprised us with the full moon gift pack that she had ordered for us (we had given her baby ang pow of course). We were so touched that she actually took the trouble to deliver all these gift packs from Kuala Lumpur to Taiping early in the morning. According to her, the confectionery shop in KL got everything ready by 9 a.m. and her husband who is working in KL collected the boxes and sent them to every doorstep within 3 hours. The red-coloured eggs were still warm when the boxes reached us. I received 2 boxes as CL is currently on her honeymoon trip so she wanted me to have hers in order not to waste it.

Tong Kee Confectionery Full Moon Gift Pack

These lovely boxes simply put a smile on your face.

Each gift pack consists of 2 Tong Kee signature egg tarts, 2 ang koo kuih, 2 red-coloured eggs and a quarter-pound sponge cake.

Instead of piping cream or icing on the entire surface of the cake, Tong Kee decorated the cake with image-printed edible sugar paper.

Did you notice that not all the cakes are of the same design?

Do you have a sweet tooth?

Not a real fan of local kuih but always get attracted by the fanciful shapes and dainty sizes of the kuih. Between the Penang version and Malacca's, which type of kuih do you prefer?

Kuih-ing at Nyonya Colors

Walking aimlessly in The Gardens, my valuable weekend was not filled with any beneficial activities. I refused to leave as I was waiting for my nerves to detect the impulse of hunger. As I walked to the lower ground floor of The Gardens, my eyes began to feel hungry. Yes, you're right! I'm saying that my eyes were feeling hungry. The lower ground floor is basically a food street where restaurants and eateries of almost all types of cuisine can be found here. I had always wanted to dine at Tony Roma's but I discovered that there wasn't a soul when I inched my feet near the main entrance of the restaurant. I did not like to be given too much attention for I would be the only customer should I decide to eat there. Hence I looked around and saw a crowd-pulling eatery on the other side. Hmm... since I'd not try the food at Nyonya Colors, why not give it a try?
