Fish cravings

I was home alone last night when my old folks attended a wedding dinner in a local restaurant. I wanted to cook but was held back by the almost empty refrigerator. I therefore searched the Internet for Domino's delivery service and by chance, spotted this small flyer under my laptop. It features a health product on some caplets rich in omega 3. Omege 3??? How long had I been not eating fish? Might be weeks, even months. I shut down my computer, quickly bathed myself and drove to the mall for some real source of Omega 3 --- FISH!!!

Salmon Sashimi @ RM11.90

Thick slices of salmon are best eaten with just a minimal amount of wasabi and shoyu.

Grilled Saba in Teriyaki sauce @ RM10.90

Till now, I still find it hard to believe that I could gobble down one large piece of saba and six thick slices of sashimi.

Interracial marriage between Italian and Japanese

Food intermarriage in Pam's house has been fully legal since Pam discovered the art and mystery of food. Food pairing is a serious business here so appointing the best food connoisseur with unlimited flow of inspiration to identify which food and drinks go well together is an utmost necessity. We are glad to announce that we have found the most qualified expert (me lah...) to carry out this practice and the result is, of course, nothing less than excellent!

Shall we review one of her best works in combining Italian coffee with Japanese curry?

Unadon @ Wasabi Sushi

An Unadon, literally means "eel bowl", is a popular rice bowl (donburi) dish made with grilled eel coated with a sweet sauce. In other words, Unadon is the glazed-grilled Unagi on top of Japanese rice.

Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki, a.k.a. Japanese pizza, is a popular pan fried food that consists of batter and cabbage. Selected toppings and ingredients added can vary greatly (anything from meat and seafood to wasabi and cheese). This variability is reflected in the dish's name; "okonomi" literally means "to one's liking".

My secret ingredients: Shredded cabbage, char siew, katsu and seaweed

Post New Year Prosperity?

I had not had too many rounds of lou sang in the recent Chinese New Year. Had the first one on the third day and the second one on the eighth day. I am never a fan of lou sang because of the non-nutritious ingredients used and the mess created on the platter resulting from the vigorous stir. No one in the family appreciates lou sang thus discarding most of the leftover is always a common practice in the family.

This afternoon, as I was walking around the mall trying to settle down for a cup of coffee, I spotted Sushi King's New Year promotional items when I chanced along the restaurant. It's the hotate (scallop) season in Japan so they offer a variety of food made from hotate. The hottest item of the month is the mini lou sang @ RM8.88 (more prosperity coming your way???)

Mini Lou Sang @ RM8.88

Deep-fried tempura batter, hotate, raw salmon slices, crabstick, shredded carrot,
shredded cucumber, half a lime and another unknown ingredient.

A poem dedicated to my Coffee

Who will know the beauty of yours in time to come,
If it were not recorded and shared?
Though yet I know it is but as the mist
Which hides your scent, and shows nothing of you.

If I could scribble the charm of your seeds,
And in grades honour all your wonders,
The age to come would say 'Ming Na cheats;
Such soothing taste never touches our hearts.'
So should my blog post, drifted with passing time,
Be read, like poems of renowned poets,
And your genuine quality be indulged a connoisseur's palate
And revived beauty of the coffee song:
But were a true appreciator of yours aware of this,
You should be brought back to life, and in my faithful lines...

A special thanks to my 'daughter', Hui Yin for the lovely egg tart.

"Ogawa Coffee Ten"

When I came back from Japan, I gave mum a shock the moment I unloaded my luggages. She discovered that half of the 25" bag was filled with coffee packs. I quickly moved everything into my rucksack and escaped with all my darlings before she started her first lecture.

Green Tea Cappuccino

I am new to fusion food and haven't the clue where to get one. Knowing that the fluid that bathes my cells comprises 90% concentrated coffee, those who care never get bored over advising the coffee addict to switch to something healthier like TEA. Too innocent to admit that I am deeply poisoned after a prolonged use of caffeine.

"Coffee, coffee boil and bubble;
Fire burn, and water bubble.
Beans of the Blue Mountain,
In the grinder crash and smash;
Huge pile of coffee dust,
Deadly aroma locked and retained,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-concoction boil and bubble."

"Coffee, coffee boil and bubble;
Fire burn, and water bubble.
Press it with a plunger,
Then the coffee charm is strong and overpowering.
O well done! I slurp my heart out;
And everyone shall feel my rushing adrenaline
And now about the coffee pot sing
Live ghosts of Caffeine in a parade
Enchanting all that I put in."

I listened, and I nodded. I accepted the kind offer of some steaming hot tea and rushed it from the tip of my throat through its path. Cheering over her victory, the good Samaritan left with a rewarding smile. Me, and me again, remained seated, without uttering a word of sigh. I was waiting patiently for the nausea to set in. Too innocent to tell her that I can't take tea.

I was unsure if I would want to keep on trying, till my nerves could withstand the fatal scent of tea. If only it could, I doubted. Then, I saw this --- Macha Cappuccino. Just pour hot boiling water into this instant cappuccino, a cap of frothy foam will form, along with the aroma of green tea. It looks exactly like a green coloured version of cappuccino, despite being coffee-less.

Back to the question: Should I change from drinking coffee to tea? To 'tea' or not to 'tea', it's up to me...
