Semi Lunch Buffet at Flemington Hotel

As one of the most reputable hotels in Taiping, Flemington hotel never fails in its effort to promote its hotel every now and then. Being a small town, Taiping has hardly any secret, and surely, this includes the latest happenings in town. When Flemington hotel first introduced the semi lunch buffet (first ever in town), everyone of us was so ignorant about the new concept yet this had aroused our interest to find out more about it. Curiosity kills the cat. The four cats made their way to Flemington Hotel on one fine day. Before we ordered anything, we made the manager explain the concept of semi-buffet. According to him, everything is served in buffet style except for the main courses which come with a choice of two main dishes. In other words, by paying only RM12 nett, we can have unlimited helping of appetisers, desserts and coffee. Doesn't it sound attractive? Yeah ~~~

We helped ourselves to the salad on the buffet table

Even the seafood chowder was of unlimited servings (I refilled my bowl for three times)

There came the first main course: Grilled Fish Fillet

Another main course: Chicken cooked in orange gravy

Refillable dessert: Chocolate cakes & Fruits

Free flow of coffee

Weekend Breakfast Set from Panorama Hotel

Wendy called last night, asking me out for breakfast on my obligatory shopping day - Sunday. Since I believe strongly that the early bird catches the worm, I always try to reach Tesco by 8 in the morning to catch all the worms before the other birds flock in to snatch them up. However, on second thought, I agreed to a makan date. Being a punctual person, I must accomplish my task and return home before Wendy's arrival. Armed with a four-wheel trolley, the crazy shopper dashed into the hypermarket and loaded her trolley with all the targetted items before making a beeline for the cashier counters. Glanced at the watch, it's only half past eight. Reload the trolley with all the scanned items, the maniac wound up her running belt and sped off and arrived at the car park safely without banging into any obstacles. Chucked everything inside the car but never forgot to return the trolley to the trolley bay (an ethical consumer), I headed towards the morning market. I placed my order at a noodle stall and left my tiffin carrier to the vendor before moving on to the news stand to grab my dad's favourite daily. When the 'tapau' was ready, I knew that I had finally completed my work. It's only 5 minutes past nine and I had ample time to reach home before 9:15. Wendy arrived on the dot and I hopped on her car to our breakfast spot - Panorama Hotel. Phew ~~ That ends the story of the crazy yet ethical shopper.

The breakfast menu (RM 8.05 nett) comes with four choices of main course:
1. Ham & egg on toast
2. Turkey ham sandwich
3. Mushroom omelette on toast
4. Cheesy scrambled egg on waffle
The breakfast set includes a glass of orange juice, a small serving of fruits and a cup of coffee or tea.

Set Lunch Promotion at Station One, Taiping Sentral

Station One has arrived in Taiping! Two recent additions to Taiping Sentral Shopping Complex in May are Station One and A & W. Taiping Sentral has since become the hippest place to hang out in Taiping. How successful is Taiping Sentral? Come and witness it yourself. When Taiping Sentral was first established in this heritage town, nobody seemed to have faith in it as Taiping folks are well known for their stinginess. However, due to the influence of sustainable development (not only on environmental issues), all of them are improving and constantly upgrading their status. Taiping people can really spend now and they are no longer Ah Beng and Ah Lian.

We went to Station One in a group of 10 and we all ordered almost the same promotion set featuring a huge serving of chicken chop, wild mushroom soup, a tall glass of iced Jasmine tea and a scoop of ice-cream. In conjunction with the opening of this new outlet, the one-month promotional item is sold at merely RM12.90.

Main course: Grilled Chicken Chop with Black Pepper sauce, coleslaw, corn and mashed potato.

Dim Sum at Zhong Hwa Hin Chinese Restaurant

Zhong Hwa Hin is a newly established Dim Sum restaurant in Taiping. The main attraction of this new dim sum joint is the chef who was trained in Hong Kong before returning to his homeland to start his own business. This restaurant occupies the premise of North Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and cleans the hall before handling it back to CCC from 2 p.m. onwards. Sounds weird, huh? This is the only way out if you do not have enough modal to start your business. Moreover, the rental isn't cheap. Hopefully this restaurant can make a profit and be able to buy its own premise one day.

Siu Mai

Three-flavoured Crystal Dumplings

Fried Taro / Wu Kok

Char Siew Pau

Loh Mai Kai

Deep-fried Spring Rolls

Siu Long Pau

Egg Tarts

Taste: Just okay. Not as good as dim sum in Ipoh
Ambience: Very spacious and airy
Price: Reasonable

Hanging out at Starbucks now...

Home alone today! Dad and Mum have gone to a wedding dinner, and there is hardly any edible stuff in the refrigerator. Ahhhhh!!! Not going to cook tonight, I looked into my wallet and found a coupon. Guess what? It's from Starbucks. With the coupon, I can redeem any drinks of any sizes for FREE! Hehe, I just love FREE stuff...

Arrived at Starbucks and saw something appealing
New Item - "Honey Orange Frappuccino Blended Coffee"

Yes! I'm going take this!

Now, this is FREE! What about food? Somehow, it's dinner time so I must order some food. Not nice to order just a cup of drink and spend the following 3 hours at the cafe. Moreover, it's FREE! What will the others think about me? STINGY lah! Alright... "Tarts and Pies" is not in the mood for hotstuff today, so forget about those pies. Let's pamper my tummy with something sinful.
Spotted this tempting devil - NOIR

Hello, my name is NOIR. I am made of a combination of chocolate cookies and chocolate cream, coated with a layer of sinfully rich ganache. I contain lots and lots of CALORIES! Take me, if you dare to...

The new item is not really that nice after all. Only a very mild scent of orange can be tasted...

I like the cake but found the ganache to be rather sticky.

Look at me and you are possessed...

A Brand New Journey of Cakes at La Promise

La Promise Bakery & Cafe - a newly opened bakery cum cafe in town. The cafe serves all types of cakes, breads and pastries. Authentic western cuisine is also served here. The menu may not be very extensive but that is exactly what a good restaurant should offer - more quality is emphasised despite its limited choice. The cafe is owned by a couple who share the same passion for good food. Almost all the items on the menu including the wide range of cakes are made by the owner of the shop as serving the best to his customers is his top priority.

A nostalgic looking cafe with a quirky charm

Affogatto coffee and fruit tart

Their signature item, the fruit tart which is freshly baked every day. The cut fruits used are fresh and the glazing is made to the right consistency.

The fruits are encased in a custard-filled crisp short crust pastry. The freshness of the tart is revealed when bitten into as fresh juice would ooz out from the cut fruits and every bite is a great satisfaction.

The scoop of vanilla ice-cream is melted in a lovely way when the aromatic espresso is poured on it. Take a sip of it to indulge yourself into the heaven of coffee.
