Empurau, "忘不了 (unforgettable)", is probably the most expensive fish in the country. So far, the highest price recorded is RM1800 per kilogram in Kuala Lumpur. That could have made the fish unforttable too…
The fish is imported directly from freshwater fish suppliers in Sarawak. Lately, the prices for the fish are relatively cheaper than before due to the increase in supply. The astronomical price of empurau does not hamper the curiosity of the diners in enjoying the fish as the meat tastes like a kind of wild fruit, according to the restaurant owner.
