The Famous Golden Corner Noodles in Taiping

I took my parents to Matang for seafood but ended up leaving immediately without eating anything. The place was over crowded and we were told that we had to wait for at least an hour for our food. It was already a quarter past eight so the three hungry souls would rather go elsewhere for dinner. As we were heading back to Taiping town, Mum suggested Golden Corner, a very popular spot for noodles and fishballs in Taiping.

Chicken feet @ RM6.00

Assorted fish balls and fish paste @ RM9.00

Noodle Soup @ RM2.70

Noodle Curry @ RM3.00

Fish cravings

I was home alone last night when my old folks attended a wedding dinner in a local restaurant. I wanted to cook but was held back by the almost empty refrigerator. I therefore searched the Internet for Domino's delivery service and by chance, spotted this small flyer under my laptop. It features a health product on some caplets rich in omega 3. Omege 3??? How long had I been not eating fish? Might be weeks, even months. I shut down my computer, quickly bathed myself and drove to the mall for some real source of Omega 3 --- FISH!!!

Salmon Sashimi @ RM11.90

Thick slices of salmon are best eaten with just a minimal amount of wasabi and shoyu.

Grilled Saba in Teriyaki sauce @ RM10.90

Till now, I still find it hard to believe that I could gobble down one large piece of saba and six thick slices of sashimi.

Three simple reasons to consider a revisit

This is not a repeating post but a revisit to the same restaurant, ordering the same package and dining with the same family members. My previous visit to Ipoh Hometown Restaurant in November 2011 was very remarkable and since then, everyone kept urging Kelvin (big brother) to take us there again. There are 3 simple reasons we wanted to go to the same place for the same food again. The price (unbelievably low at RM138 per set), the taste (very decent Chinese cuisine) and the location (parking lot available in abundance).

Stir-fried paku in belacan

Ruby Anniversary

Yesterday was my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. I did a very small scale celebration for them because both my brothers and their respective families are not in Taiping. In fact, we had already celebrated this event  earlier in conjunction with my Dad's 70th Birthday. Yesterday, however, was the actual day of registration anniversary so it's an obligation for me to cheer my old folks up and remind the old man the sacrifices and contributions of Mum to the family.

Appetiser: Braised Shandong Peanuts

The Four Treasure Platter comprises Abalone sandwiched with chicken meat, black pepper ostrich meat, deep-fried fish cake and shark fin omelette.

Look at him, so reluctant to pose for the camera.

It was mum who held his hand together. He looked as if he was forced to participate in cake cutting.

Breakfast @ Taiping Morning Market

I go marketing at the Taiping morning market every Saturday. With my years of experience shopping for groceries here, I know where to find the best deal without much hassle. That's because I know almost every vendor in the market and they know me by my name as well.

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle (Second Visit)

As mentioned in my earlier post on RT Pastry Shop, we went to Taman Desa Danau for the famous fish head  vermicelli at Woo Pin Restaurant last Sunday morning. We did not order much as we are all small-eaters (=.=)' so the four of us shared 2 bowls of fish head vermicelli, 1 bowl of fish paste and a block of fish cake. Fish head noodle is mother's all-time favourite despite the fact that she had hardly been exposed to the noodle dish in her younger days. It was love at the first sight when we took her to Woo Pin last year and she made her first attempt in trying this dish. Instantly, she fell in love with it.

The New Club Restaurant, Taiping.

As a member of the New Club Taiping, I am required to spend a minimum of RM360 on food and beverage per annum, which is equal to RM30 per month. You can choose to spend that amount at the bar, the poolside cafe and the restaurant serving halal Chinese food.

Unforgettable Empurau

Empurau, "忘不了 (unforgettable)", is probably the most expensive fish in the country. So far, the highest price recorded is RM1800 per kilogram in Kuala Lumpur. That could have made the fish unforttable too…
The fish is imported directly from freshwater fish suppliers in Sarawak. Lately, the prices for the fish are relatively cheaper than before due to the increase in supply. The astronomical price of empurau does not hamper the curiosity of the diners in enjoying the fish as the meat tastes like a kind of wild fruit, according to the restaurant owner.
