Tarts and Pies posted by Tarts and Pies

How much do I love egg tarts?
How much do I love meat pies?

Below are some evidence showing my passion towards them...

1. I name my blog as 'Tarts and Pies'.

2. I have 25 cookbooks on tarts and pies.

3. I bake tarts and pies only

4. I send tarts and pies as gifts

5. I eat tarts and pies for breakfast at least twice a week

6. My Guiness record:

One particular morning, I walked past my favourite pastry shop in Bercham and saw a batch of piping hot egg tarts coming out fresh from the oven. My nerves went beyond control again and I ended up buying 6 egg tarts and 3 chicken pies.

What did I do with all those sinful delights?

The answer is simple...

Breakfast - 2 egg tarts, 1 chicken pie & a cup of steaming hot local coffee

Lunch - 2 egg tarts, 1 chicken pie & a cup of steaming hot local coffee

Dinner - 2 egg tarts, 1 chicken pie & a cup of steaming hot local coffee

Chinese Confectionery at Ching Han Guan

This is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) confectionery shops in Ipoh selling
Chinese biscuits and pastries. At present, the shop is managed by the second generation of the founder and the quality of their biscuits still remains consistent in spite of producing many varieties of biscuits all year round.
You can easily recognise the owner who never fails in taking care of his business
from morning till evening.
One of the signature items - Lotus and meat floss pastry. This pastry has created wonders to the shop as it has attracted customers from all over Malaysia. Tourists from both KL and Singapore constantly flock in to purchase this item in dozens.
This pastry comes in two varieties of a slight difference: With and without salted egg yolk.
(The extra egg yolk actually costs so much extra!)

Another favourite of mine which I think is almost perfectly done -
Walnut Cookies (Hup Toh Soh)

Won Ton Noodles to die for in Bercham

Bercham is one of the fast developing areas in Ipoh. Bercham is known for its good food namely seafood noodles, 'toong fun crab', claypot chicken rice etc. However, there are many humble vendors selling tasty food around the corner, remain unknown to many, like... this one...This is my favourite won ton noodles stall in Bercham.
This stall is run by a couple from Selama (a border town to Kedah).
Most of the wonton noodle in town is factory-made, thus it makes no difference in terms of the noodles texture regardless of where you eat it.
The noodle of this stall is made in a home factory and it tastes more eggy and springy.

Every strand of noodles is tossed with the right amount of dark soy sauce.

Once upon a Croissant...

Good morning! It's time for brekky... Thinking of what to eat, I sniffed around the kitchen...
Apparently, my kitchen had run out of stock again.
A lazy mind with an empty tummy was almost starved to death...
Thought of skipping breakfast so I started flipping the pages of the bi-monthly magazine.
Guess what? I saw this ad on the first page...

"Starbucks's Breakfast"

Butter + Jam + Croissant = Inseparable

A cup of freshly brewed Americano paired with a warm and buttery croissant is considered a hearty meal for a small eater like me. Yummy... yummy...
