The Famous Golden Corner Noodles in Taiping

I took my parents to Matang for seafood but ended up leaving immediately without eating anything. The place was over crowded and we were told that we had to wait for at least an hour for our food. It was already a quarter past eight so the three hungry souls would rather go elsewhere for dinner. As we were heading back to Taiping town, Mum suggested Golden Corner, a very popular spot for noodles and fishballs in Taiping.

Tai Woo Dim Sum @ Ipoh Garden South

This dim sum shop is run by a Hongkie couple. With a variety of Hong Kong style cuisine in their menu, their dim sum is slightly different from the type found in most local dim sum restaurants. In the absence of Canton-i and Dragon-i outlets in Ipoh, and while the taste is considered quite decent, I do not mind visiting this shop in the near future when I crave for xiao loong bao (Shanghainese dumplings) and lao sa bao (Lava buns).

Loong bao (Shanghainese dumplings) @ RM5.50

Thick-skinned xiao loong bao served in a mini aluminium tray, a marvellous way to avoid wastage of the concentrated stock in it. 

Arriving late for lunch, I ordered the Wonton Noodle set which comprises a bowl of noodle, the Mango and Pomelo Dessert, and the Tonic Medlar and Petal Cake @ RM13.80

I'd not recommend their Wonton noodles which has a gooey texture.

Alright, this is real additive. Being neither too sweet nor watery, this dainty treat has put a smile on my face.

I was quite disappointed with the newly opened AEON Station 18. Since AEON Station 18 is the largest, latest and 'hippest' shopping mall in Ipoh, I'd expect a better shopping environment with more international brands commonly found in KL or Penang. However, the more I anticipated, the more disappointment I got. 

Kim Gary has been my all time favourite whenever I visit KL because of its wide varieties of food and great taste. The quality of food in most outlets is quite consistent so I had faith in the newest outlet at Station 18. However, the Ipoh outlet is probably the only exception. The ingredients were not fresh, the service was slow and the staff were totally incompetent. Since AEON Station 18 is 40 minutes drive from Bercham, I will not consider a revisit. It's not worth driving a long distance to shop at another lousy mall.

Nobody was in the mood for cooking last night and we all agreed unanimously that we should just take our dinner at the hawker centre. Everyone was happy for not having to 'open rice' and wash the dishes.

Honesty is the best policy!

We had a late dinner yesterday. As we were crossing the Penang bridge, he asked if we would have our dinner after we returned to Taiping or drop by Butterworth for food. Looking at his countenance, I knew he was hoping that I would pick the second option. Even though I was not feeling hungry, I lied to him that I could hardly wait for another hour to eat in Taiping. He smiled and suggested that we go to Kim Tavern at Sunway Carnival Mall in Butterworth. Shortly after we exited from the bridge, we were caught in a terrible jam and since we were already on the North-bound highway, there's no way for us to change our route back to Taiping instead. Our car was crawling along the stretch of road leading towards Butterworth for more than 45 minutes. We ended up reaching the mall an hour late. Sigh... shouldn't have lied to him in the first place or we could save the trouble of looking for parking lot in the mall, and driving for another an hour to go back home. Honesty is the best policy.

Ruby Anniversary

Yesterday was my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. I did a very small scale celebration for them because both my brothers and their respective families are not in Taiping. In fact, we had already celebrated this event  earlier in conjunction with my Dad's 70th Birthday. Yesterday, however, was the actual day of registration anniversary so it's an obligation for me to cheer my old folks up and remind the old man the sacrifices and contributions of Mum to the family.

A crowded place for breakfast

Please don't go to Nam Heong Coffee shop alone no matter how much you crave for white coffee. As you know, the crowded dining area is not enough to cater for the huge flow of customers. You probably won't get a seat unless you are willing to share the table with others but I doubt you are welcomed by those who come in a group or a family. However, that doesn't mean you can't eat there if you are alone provided if you visit the shop at the convenient time - between 6.30 to 7.30 a.m. I am not joking, cause that's the time you can see me there.
