Visiting E & O again!

Uncle Ron and Aunty Lai came all the way from England to attend Kenny's wedding. They are really nice people and always try not to trouble us every time they return to Malaysia. Both of them love Penang so much that they are willing to rent a room at Parkroyal Hotel for 2 weeks during their stay in Malaysia. I am really impressed by the lifestyle of the Brits that they can spend the whole day enjoying sunbath at the beach. Paying RM380 per night just to enjoy the beach plus sunlight sounds so impractical to me as we Chinese are all calculative people who will never pay to sit and relax in the hotel. After my oral defence session, I drove to meet them in Batu Ferringhi. I promised to give them a luxurious treat at one of the most prestigious hotels in Penang, the Eastern & Oriental Hotel. I recommended the English Afternoon Tea because that is the only place in Penang serving authentic British style high tea. In return, they also promised to take me to The Ritz in London for the same treat when I visit them again in London. I just wondered why I never thought of enjoying English Afternoon Tea during my previous stay in London. Well, I swear I shall never leave before going to the Ritz in my next visit.
.

Being a small eater, I ordered only 3 sets of English Afternoon Tea. Uncle Ron and Aunty Lai had one set each while Mum and I shared one set.
Tea for 4
The entire English Afternoon Tea costs RM45 ++ per person
Raisin Scones and Plain Scones
Smoked Salmon Sandwich, Cucumber & Dill Sandwich and Beef & Dill Sandwich
Cheesecakes, Carrot Cakes, Custard Puffs, Strawberry Cookies and Dark Chocolate Cakes
Since I don't eat beef, I asked for a substitute of cheese
Uncle Ron and Aunty Lai did not comment much on the food but Mum said that they were not as good as those days.

Breakfast at Segafredo

Starting your day with a good cup of coffee does not necessary ensure you of a good day ahead but it can somehow boost up your spirit and provide you with sufficient energy to meet the demand of work. My oral defence session required both endurance and tolerance. Given the fact that the above qualities can be furthered strengthened with a cup of strong brew, we drove extra miles just to look for the type of coffee that fulfils the criteria.

Caffe Segafredo Zanetti Espresso

Long Black and Juice of the Day
Adding RM1.50 for a cup of energy booster - Long Black

The menu

Pick your favourite from the 8 breakfast sets

Bagels & Lox's @ RM12 nett
(Bagel topped with Salmon Lox, Cream Cheese, Baked Haricots Beans and Macerated Eggs)

Club Sandwich Surf & Turf @ RM7 nett
(Triple Deck of Tuna Mayo, Shredded Chicken, Scrambled Egg Remoulade and Fresh Garden Cress)

The food served in Segafredo are all fresh and value-for-money. You need not pay through your nose to enjoy a truly satisfying cafe-styled breakfast which is both tasty and appealing to the eyes. Initially, Mum was unsure if she would be able to finish the sandwich that came in a super large portion but later found herself wolfing down one after another and she managed to finish everything all by herself. Salute!!! Mum and I are planning our next visit on one of these days because the breakfast promotion is coming to an end. Too bad, such wonderful treat should be given more recognition and made as a permanent item in the menu.

October Afternoon Tea 5: Egg Tart & Caffe Vienna

When I was uploading the pictures, I asked myself if the others would say: "Oh, not again!" I know that it is rather sickening by seeing the same type of food over and over again but I couldn't resist the temptation. Every time when I brought the tarts to the dining table, I told myself that I must not take any more pictures on egg tarts because I have taken more than 600 shots on egg tarts over the years. I tried to convince myself that all the tarts look the same so it would be meaningless to snap pictures again. But my mind would betray me and keep pestering me: "Don't you think it looks lovely today? Go... go fetch the camera here, you mustn't miss this ..." While I found myself smiling after that, I made myself promise not to post it again. Throughout the day I had been looking at the camera and I found myself develop an inexplicable form of uneasiness. I knew I had to give in again.

If only you weren't that flaky...
If only you weren't that wobbly...

If only you both weren't the most perfect match...
I wouldn't be called 'The Egg Tart Maniac'!

Attn: All Egg Tarts Lovers,

Choy Kee Pastry Shop has been renamed as Choice Cake Shop. Currently, they have three branches in Bercham, Menglembu and Gunung Rapat respectively. Of course, their main stall in Kg Simee still remains the most popular in the heart of Ipoh folks.

Dinner at Italiannies

I hope you are not bored with the type of food I eat. If you know Ming Na well, you should have noticed the frequent posting of Italian food. My Italy trip was an influential one which left me with the strong desire for savouring all range of Italian food. So if you are not a fan of Italian cuisine, you may find this post a little too dull as it is just another pasta and pizza game.

The menu
Balsamic Sauce and Vinegar
Complimentary Bread
Grape Shake
Margherita Pizza
Tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese
Clams Fra Diavolo
Sauteed in a spicy tomato broth
Shrimp Linguine
Sauteed shrimp served with marinara sauce

Chicken Risotto

Tiramisu

Lasy finger cookies dipped in liqueur & espresso coffee with layers of creamy mascarpone icing and topped with dark chocolate powder
Being an established Italian restaurant in Malaysia, consistency is their key to success. So far, none of their food has ever disappointed me in my past visits. I am still very keen on going to Italiannies over and over again.

Revisiting Soul Kitchen Trattoria

Soul Kitchen Trattoria is the only Italian family restaurant in Penang which I would recommend to my friends in Perak. My first visit gave me a lasting impression because I could finally announce that I had found a tiramisu which tasted so close to Venice's. Speaking as a pasta lover, I found a true authenticity in their pasta dish too. I therefore took Wendy to the same restaurant as she is the very few people whom I know who can appreciate real Italian food.

Black Coffee @ RM6 and Cappuccino @ RM5
Pasta Chicken al Limone @ RM19
Tiramisu @ RM10
It was a truly joyous moment to see Wendy enjoy eating their Tiramisu so much.
