Ho's Birthday Tea

Ho celebrated her 41st birthday last Tuesday. As her birthday fell on a weekday, it was unlikely that she would celebrate it at home with her parents. Being the 'closest' person to her (sitting beside her in the common room), I tried by all means cheering her up on her big day and took her to Starbucks for a mini celebration. I even invited two favourite colleagues of hers to come along but only one had managed to make it while the other was feeling unwell on the same day.

70th Birthday and Ruby Wedding Anniversary

We had a double celebration in Ipoh. Daddy's and Mummy's Ruby Wedding Anniversary and Daddy's 70th Birthday were celebrated on the same day. In the presence of 70 friends and relatives, the whole family had an enjoyable time eating and chatting. The entire dinner was paid by both my brothers and me. Each guest was given a bar of chocolate, a cupcake, a packet of shrimp noodle, a rice bowl and a pair of chopsticks. At the same time, we respectfully declined the angpows from our guests. Dad always tells us that accepting money from the guests is equivalent to making others pay for his birthday. Their presence is a treasured gift, we request no other...

To Mummy with Love

It's Mummy's birthday again. This year is a bit different from the previous years. Instead of eating at the restaurants in Ipoh Garden, we drove all the way from Bercham to Menglembu to celebrate Mummy's birthday at the East Ocean Restaurant, which many claim serves better food than their sister restaurants. The whole family had a really good time enjoying the food and scraping the plate clean. Haha... the food was indeed much tastier than Ipoh Garden East's. There's hardly any complaints except for the service which was exceptionally slow and uncoordinated. In fact, we nearly yelled at the waitresses who were being disdainfully rude and unhelpful. On the contrary, the Ipoh Garden East outlet always wins our heart for their staff are always willing to attend to the request of their customers.

This superior soup is made from abalone, fish maw, dried scallops, Chinese mushroom, sea cucumber, top shells and Chinese ham.

Flavourful and tender abalone is everybody's favourite.

Today, today and today... ... Ain't just any ordinary days that are usually filled with dullness and discontentment, no matter how luxurious the afternoon tea may look. Certainly, food is not a persuasive subject. I love food, but not easily fall for one, nor do I always find it simply irresistible. My requirements are high, my demand is hanging and my appetite is growing. When I first started eating around, I beamed from ear to ear upon seeing food. Ironically, the word 'tasty' just doesn't interest me nowadays. When good food fails to arouse my interest, something else (or someone?) must come in. I know what I want. All I want is merely a good company, a real companion who shares my passion in food, particularly coffee and afternoon tea. My thought for the day: Good food is not meant to be eaten alone.

Today is a special day. My beloved 'daughter' has turned 18! Being my favourite student, she is always my most welcomed guest in the list. On her big day, I was given the honour to savour the wonderful afternoon treats with her. Speaking as a proud 'stepmother', I am glad to be the first person to celebrate this memorable moment with her. And I hope there will be more to come as time goes by.
