Dinner @ Xiang Zi Lou

Aunty Alice came from Penang to visit us. Being well known for her generosity, she brought along 5 packets of Heong Peng, 3 boxes of Tambun biscuits and 3 bottles of Ghee Hiang sesame oil, specially for us. We could not thank her more so we took her to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. Looking for a table on weekends is not an easy task as most restaurants were booked for weddings. We went from one restaurant to another, enquiring from one counter to another and lastly ended at Xiang Zi Lou Restaurant (looks more like a roadside stall) for some quality food taken in a lousy setting.

Shark Fin Soup

Braised beancurd, mushroom and roast pork.

Blanched yau mak topped with alabone slices.

Stir-fried vegetables

Steamed pork slices with ginger and chilli.

Fish me out at Manhattan Fish Market

The 2-day seminar was finally over. We were given a two-hour early dismissal so that we wouldn't get caught in the jam on the way back to the mainland. All the teachers sped off immediately without taking the afternoon tea provided by the hotel. I was one of them but we went on separate ways upon reaching the Penang Bridge. They took the exit onto the Penang Bridge while I went straight along the Bayan Lepas Expressway towards Queensbay Mall. I ended up spending more than 3 hours shopping around the mall and later enjoyed a super large meal all by myself at the Manhattan Fish Market. Traffic jam? Who cares?

Set Lunch @ Citrus Wine and Dine

Ever since the establishment of a few Euro Deli restaurants in Ipoh (Macoy, The Limestone, Berline Bier etc.), the local seems to have forgotten about Citrus Wine and Dine, the pioneer restaurant serving European fine dining cuisine in Ipoh. Still standing proud as one, Citrus never gives in to the fast food culture in spite of the strong competition around. What you get is quality food which is prepared with passion and patience, while upholding to its principle of serving only the best to the diners.
