Things are getting smaller...

While the food in most cafes may be a little too heavy in the sense that they contain more fats and calories than your body need in a day, one can opt for more dainty looking treats just to satisfy the hunger pangs without burdening your health with unwanted loads.

Faithfully yours...

Being loyal to authentic English Afternoon Tea, I have never missed the chance of eating nice scones and enjoying fragrant English tea, though I can't really drink tea, a substance which I am always allergic to. However, I know that I shouldn't break the tradition by separating the universal pairing of tea and scone, I am willing to risk my 'life' by challenging my limitations again and again, bearing the nauseous feeling caused by the 'unknown' substance in tea. If you are also an afternoon tea person, you will certainly agree with me, and if you were ever in my shoes, you might be even more daring than I am.

Devonshire Cream Tea @ RM15.00

Each cream tea set comes with a pot of single serving tea

My choice of tea: Camomile
(the only tea leaf that causes the least nausea after drinking)

Two freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserves

This is how a nice scone should look like: clotted cream and strawberry preserves spread evenly between a horizontally slit scone without leaving behind a lot of crumbs on the plate.

Hoping for many more to come...

Dear friend,

It has been way too long since we last had tea and a chat. Just want to let you know how much I missed those wonderful moments we had when we both shared the same passion for coffee and cakes. Being the only person who loves eating my scones, you made my day by calling me out for tea. While taste was shallow and feelings were deep, it really did not matter even if the scones we ordered were too far from satisfaction. The cosiness called upon us to sit together to address our friendship in a meaningful way. I have one and hoping for many more to come.

Windsor Tea for One @ Annabelle's Place

My love for English Afternoon Tea has been made well-known over the years when I kept hunting high and low for the most excellent afternoon tea from one region to another. In Penang alone, I discovered many places which serve English afternoon tea but most of these places are usually a let down. For instance, E&O, The Suffolk House, David Brown, Winter Warmers etc. As we all know, the imitators out there cause the genuine experts who struggle hard to retain authenticity to be in a vulnerable position. Who will be the winner in the end? Only God knows the answer, considering the fact that people usually opt for more economical choice.  Poor thing...

So far, the best which I've tasted is Annabelle's Place in Tanjung Bungah. This is not my first visit to Annabelle's. In fact, I patronised her shop on a regular basis and I even took my kwai loh uncle there for some freshly baked scones. The lady owner could remember me so well that I normally received a personalised greeting from her whenever we met.

Windsor Tea for One @ RM22.00

The Windsor Tea set comes with a pot of tea of your choice (between Earl Grey, English Breakfast and Jasmine).
This is Earl Grey.

Cappuccino @ RM8.00

The entire tea set comprises one scone served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve (we paid RM3.00 for the extra scone), 2 types of sandwiches, a slice of cake, 2 slices of biscuits and cut fruits.

Care for a lovely English afternoon tea with me? You're invited, cordially...

English tradition at its finest

Coffee in a pot, scones with cream and jam, shiny cutlery and lapping sound of water... nothing could be more British than afternoon tea at Strawberry Hill, Penang. English tradition at its finest – David Brown’s serves the best afternoon tea in Penang.

We were delighted to be able to go to Strawberry Hill again for Penang’s finest venue for afternoon tea for the second time. Luxurious, elegant and perfect every day. David Brown’s highly sought after afternoon tea is a mouth-watering and utterly English meal of a choice of finest English tea, a delicious array of finger sandwiches, a selection of savoury pies, light & crusty scones with strawberry preserve and Devonshire clotted cream. The time-honoured tradition of afternoon tea may be enjoyed if you have an afternoon to spare. You can leisurely savour one of the most established of English rituals just as if you were in Britain.

To complement these delicious scones, the wide-ranging tea selection runs from Earl Grey to Camomile. All in all, an exquisite afternoon of tea with an elegant setting and gracious hospitality.

English Afternoon Tea @ David Brown's Restaurant and Tea Terraces

In the Heart of the Penang Hill sits this traditional Tudor style restaurant. Quitessentially English, English afternoon tea is a perfect way to spend an afternoon in Penang Hill. Relax and refresh yourself with the English Afternoon Tea at the David Brown's Restaurant and Tea Terraces which is delightfully indulgent, yet frivolous and fun with the cosiness of al fresco dining. The selection of food is truly a tribute to all things English.
