Faithfully yours...

Being loyal to authentic English Afternoon Tea, I have never missed the chance of eating nice scones and enjoying fragrant English tea, though I can't really drink tea, a substance which I am always allergic to. However, I know that I shouldn't break the tradition by separating the universal pairing of tea and scone, I am willing to risk my 'life' by challenging my limitations again and again, bearing the nauseous feeling caused by the 'unknown' substance in tea. If you are also an afternoon tea person, you will certainly agree with me, and if you were ever in my shoes, you might be even more daring than I am.

Devonshire Cream Tea @ RM15.00

Each cream tea set comes with a pot of single serving tea

My choice of tea: Camomile
(the only tea leaf that causes the least nausea after drinking)

Two freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserves

This is how a nice scone should look like: clotted cream and strawberry preserves spread evenly between a horizontally slit scone without leaving behind a lot of crumbs on the plate.

Curried Risotto

Risotto is also known as Italian rice. This type of rice has a rounded shape as compared to the normal oblong shape of most rice. Many Malaysians have heard of risotto and eaten it at Italian restaurants, without knowing how to make their own at home. Cooking risotto till soft is a common mistake made because we are so used to eating rice that is cooked the local way --- soft~~

To obtain the correct consistency and texture of risotto, the rice should be only 60% cooked. This leaves the rice with a more chewy texture which the Italians proudly calls it al dente...

Japanese style curried risotto

Add a cube of Japanese curry into the cooker and stir it with the risotto until the rice is completely cooked.

Japanese curry has a natural thickening agent so it is not necessary to sprinkle the risotto with cheese.

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng: Revisit

Talked about Hong Kong style food, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng is not the most outstanding cafe. With limited choice of restaurants in Ipoh, Wong Kok is the only place that serves typical Hongkee style food. We went to De Garden for lunch and found customers overflow in queues . In spite of being packed to the brim, we somehow managed to get a table for three in less than five minutes.

Yam Rice @ Kedai Kopi Soon Loong, Chai Leng Park

I had never eaten yam rice in my life until I was posted to Segamat in 2006. My landlady is a good cook and her family enjoys her home-cooked meal very much particularly her special yam rice. Even though I am not a fan of rice, I had never turned away from her yam rice that is almost always perfectly done. I usually ended up wolfing down more than one serving. Ever since I was transferred back to my hometown, I stopped eating yam rice because I always find the yam rice in Taiping and Ipoh rather tasteless. Two weeks ago, I went to Butterworth to meet up with my former classmate who is married to a Penang guy. We both went to Chai Leng Park for lunch and she recommended this shop. If you search the internet, you will find that yam rice is the most popular dish in Butterworth and most bloggers usually go to the shop by the name of C*** H***. However, this friend of mine assured me that the neighbour of C*** H*** serves even better yam rice. True enough, the yam rice at Soon Loong is very fragrant and the taste is so close to my landlady's.
