Food of yesteryear

Food of yesteryear - the most comforting type. It usually costs you a painless price but always guarantees a huge reward - a smile of contentment. In our childhood years, half-boiled eggs and butter kaya toast marked some remarkable breakfast moments we had with our family, while we enjoyed cracking open eggs in egg cups. Munching the crispy thick toast, dipping the toast into half-boiled eggs, drinking coffee from the saucer...... Life can't get any better than this, if only we could return to the past, and recollect all those past memories...

Are We Coming Apart Or Together?

Are We Coming Apart Or Together?

Somewhere and sometime in this small town
Two drifters are together
Struggling to find words which they can share
Their hearts are not apart
Their feelings remain strong
But...
Gaps are seen and felt
Peculiar feelings arising
Uneasiness overwhelming
Love is falling apart, somehow
My girl,
Is she my daughter whom I've known for years?
With endless patience and passion I showered
Suppressing the unforgiven nagging and scolding
Is she the one whom I love
Fading into darkness
Falling into bits
Are we still together?

A Steamy Poem
by a steamy teacher

Oh, my eyes are just meltin’
For a little peek of mighty sponge,
A chunk of bread, a perfect drip of caffeine brew;
My heart is throbbin
My eyes are twitchin
Just let me tear it into bits,

And sink my teeth into these pillowy fabulous.

Unforgettable ~ that's what you are~

Nan Yang Coffee Shop is an old favourite in Segamat and locals like to linger over coffee and crispy toast. This Hainanese coffee shop has been around for 80 years and still serves very authentic Hainaese fare such as toast with butter and kaya. For toast, there is a choice of sliced bread or buns. You can also choose to have these steamed. The toast is thin and crispy while the steamed bread is cottony soft. The kaya is well-liked by everyone as it was creamy yet not too rich and the locals enjoyed it spread thickly on the toast. As for the coffee served here, it certainly got the attention of the crowd, being thick and aromatic, it's perfectly matched with the toast and half-boiled eggs.

Tea for three @ Pappa Rich

Arriving in Ipoh at a quarter past three. The three famished souls had hardly had anything since their morning breakfast in Taiping. None of us had the strength to suggest any good food for lunch (tea is more suitable). The decision was the driver's (me of course). Speeding along the south-bound expressway at 120kmph, my car came to a screeching halt when the huge signboard of Pappa Rich came into sight. The three of us just knew one another too well. We got off the car without a word and rushed for our life-saving fuel. Knowing that it was way past lunch time and we still hadn't eaten anything so none of us bothered to look at the page featuring all the buns and bread which obviously sounded more suitable for this hour.
