Thai Crepe in Taiping

Lately, students in school have gone crazy over Thai crepes sold by a Thai national who just started her business in Taiping not long ago. They have been telling me how tasty the crepes are and apparently they eat it every day. The stall is located along the five foot way in front of Wan Li restaurant. According to them, this snack is available in two different types - sweet and savoury - and each type comes with a variety of combinations. A RM2.30 sweet crepe contains two fillings which range from assorted jam to butter based spread. As for the RM3.00 savoury crepe, it comprises more interesting fillings namely cheese sausage, pork ham, crab filament stick, cheddar cheese etc. After choosing your filling, you can request for mustard sauce to be added together with the other normal dressing. The finished product is so rich and the crepe is crispy with a touch of sweetness.

A thin layer of batter is spread evenly on the griddle 

When the pancake is three quarter cooked, arrange the ingredients / filling on one side of the pancake.

Sprinkle with shredded cabbage and drizzle with some mayonnaise sauce

Here comes the thousand island sauce, Worcestershire sauce and yellow mustard.

Fold one side of the pancake over and continue folding side ways into a cone.

We spotted this stall selling tako balls in front of the supermarket. Instantly, it reminded me of the tako balls I had in Japan. I bought a box of it in spite of still feeling full after having breakfast at Kim Gary because I knew I should not miss this.

I picked octopus as the main ingredient because tako means octopus.

A box of tako balls costs RM4.80. Quite pricey, hoh?

Snack till you drop!

How much snack can you stomach in 5 hours while walking around the mall and shopping for outfit? One usually won't bother to eat a proper meal when there is a sale in the mall cause wasting time on food is the worst practice ever for women who are competing with one another in grabbing the items on sale. 

First, grab a Pretzel and fill your body with sufficient amount of carbohydrates before the battle begins.

The constant walking and bargaining may result in your body producing excessive heat and sweat so it is best to chill yourself with a cup of ice-cream to prepare for the second round.

At last, you have probably spent more than what you ought to. By now, you might have become penniless so you can make used of the remaining shillings inside your pocket for two mini chocolate lava and cheese tarts before you call it a day.

As we were spending our hard-earned savings on food and outfits, Dad beckoned Mum to follow him to a food stall at the concourse area of One Utama. He was attracted by the tempting smell of otak-otak and his biological clock reminded him that it was time for afternoon tea. Haha...

Hatyai 2011: Mini Chinese Crullers

One of my favourite snacks in Thailand - Mini Chinese Crullers.

The dough has an elastic and stretchable nature.

Adding more flour while pulling it to a desired length.

Cut the long dough to shorter segments of equal size.

It's the skill that matters.

Topping each small segment with another

The dual-layer dough is ready to be stretched longer then deep-fried.

Expanding in size and turning into golden brown in a pool of hot boiling oil.

Draining excess oil from the fried crullers

Chinese crullers are best eaten when they are still hot and crispy!
