Keep the Tradition Alive

I usually go to this traditional Hainanese coffee shop once a week for afternoon tea. Though single ladies are not commonly seen eating at this old coffee shop, I have been one of their regulars since my return to Taiping from my previous workplace. The owner and his staff know me just too well. Tarts are reserved, coffee is served in my favourite cup and saucer (special privilege)...... *wink

Yut Sun Coffee Shop

Roti Sayur @ RM4.50

Roti Sayur is a simple dish to prepare. There's hardly any secret lying behind the absolute success of this dish so you can try making it at home by following the 3 fuss free steps.
1. Toast a thickly sliced bread to golden brown.
2. Coarsely chop the mixture of vegetables (cabbage, carrot, and green peas). Stir fry the vegetable mixture with oyster sauce and thicken the gravy to the right consistency.
3. Pour the cooked vegetables and gravy over the toast and top with a sunny side up egg.

Due to the small portion of Roti Sayur which may not be adequate to last one till the next meal, diners are always seen rounding off their meals with the cakes and tarts in the glassy shelf.

Dinner at Sou Sum

In conjunction of the birthday of Goddess of Mercy, we practised vegetarian for the whole day. We had our lunch at Meng Kee Vegetarian Restaurant and dinner at Sou Sum, just a few walking steps from Meng Kee.

'Chicken' Chop

Black 'Pomfret' cooked in Black Bean Paste Sauce

Suckling 'Pig'

'Pork' Ribs coated with honey sauce

Yau Mak fried in fermented beancurd paste

All the above cost RM77. Too steep? Reasonable? What do you think?

Vegetarian Set Meals at Buzz Corner

I was alone at Queensbay Mall when I found this newly-opened cafe selling vegetarian food.
"Buzz Corner"
A simple menu with your own choice of fruit juice. You can mix any 3 types of fruits that you like. Every addition of fruit will be charged an extra ringgit.
The friendly owner of the cafe - Rachel
Rachel was seen busy making my juice - A combination of Grapefruit, Ginger, Carrot and Lemon
Before the juice was served, it was drizzled with some honey to enhance the flavour.
Frankly speaking, I'm not a grapefruit person so this rather bitter thing tasted awful to me.
One can imagine how horrible the blend is when ginger is added.
I ordered this because Rachel said that it helps burn excess body fat.
The one and only type of sandwichavailable in the menu.
Nothing interesting as it has only veg and fruits inside.

North Zone, Second Floor,
