Autumn Stroll in Macau - Lord Stow's Bakery & Cafe

Lord Stow's Bakery and Cafe is famous for one item - Andrew's Egg Tart. Andrew's original recipe egg tart became well knownbeyond their territorial confines, attracting a faithful following, becoming almost a trademark of Macau. The late Andrew got his inspiration for this Macanese delicacy from the popular Portuguese dessert Pasteis de Nata - a kind of egg tart, which, centuries ago, had its origins in the Lisbon waterfront area of Belem. His creation, however, is slightly different from the Portuguese version as his products come with a little English touch.

After a hearty lunch at Cheong Kei, we proceeded to Po Kin Milk Company for some lovely desserts. Compared to their competitor Estabelecimento de Bebidas E. Comidas Café / (Leitaria I Son / Yee Shun Milk Products 義順牛奶有限公司),Po Kin's (保健牛奶公司) products are only average so if you are planning a trip to Macau, I would only recommend the former. However, one man's food may be another man's poison. You can always try both and select your preference.

I had my third trip to Hong Kong and Macau last November. In fact, I just returned from the same countries in early 2011. Many asked me what's so fascinating about Hong Kong and Macau. They obviously did not see the point of going to the same place over and over again. As for me, Hong Kong is such a lousy country with very few tourist attractions, people are generally rude and impatient, the city is highly overpopulated etc. 

Well, so why did I keep pilgrimaging HK over the years? Haha... what else if it wasn't for their food?

Never had I ever imagined myself being ‘granted’ the opportunity to experience one of the most unfortunate stories commonly takes place in the airport – missing a flight. We, five in a family, had arrived in the airport two hours in advance, somehow didn’t make it in time for our flight. On that remarkable day, we missed our flight because of long lines. The drop off area at Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) airport was overflowing with passengers waiting to stamp their passports. The malfunctioned e-gates, the shortage of custom officials, the exceptionally huge lines … … had led to a painful lesson for 16 passengers, including my whole family.

Needless to say, despite pleading with the airport staff and yelling like maniacs at the top of our lungs, we didn’t manage to gain entry to the aircraft but to watch it leave with 16 untaken seats. Having gotten up from the wrong side of the bed, we were forced to fork out an astronomical price for the tickets to catch the next flight to Macau. There, with much frustration, sad, regret and heartache, was another 6 hours of waiting.

Consequently, instead of arriving in Macau for breakfast, we landed at 4.10 in the afternoon!
