Thai Crepe in Taiping

Lately, students in school have gone crazy over Thai crepes sold by a Thai national who just started her business in Taiping not long ago. They have been telling me how tasty the crepes are and apparently they eat it every day. The stall is located along the five foot way in front of Wan Li restaurant. According to them, this snack is available in two different types - sweet and savoury - and each type comes with a variety of combinations. A RM2.30 sweet crepe contains two fillings which range from assorted jam to butter based spread. As for the RM3.00 savoury crepe, it comprises more interesting fillings namely cheese sausage, pork ham, crab filament stick, cheddar cheese etc. After choosing your filling, you can request for mustard sauce to be added together with the other normal dressing. The finished product is so rich and the crepe is crispy with a touch of sweetness.

Three-Cup Chicken Set Meal @ Xian Ding Wei

I have never been to Taiwan before as this Mandarin speaking country has aroused very little interest of mine to explore it, be it its attraction or food. I was not really keen on dining at Xian Ding Wei but was willing to give it a try since many people around me had recommended this place to me. The food was however truly a let down. It's my first and will also be my last time eating Taiwanese food in Malaysia. Hopefully someone or something would change my perception towards Taiwanese food one day.

Justart @ Gurney Plaza

I have waited for a long time to the arrival of Justart in the Northern region since my first visit to their pioneer outlets in Johor Bahru. Just one bite and I was instantly hooked on their products - tarts of assorted flavours. This outlet at Gurney Plaza is their third outlet after Crystal Point and Persiaran Queensbay. Well, regardless of where their stall is, as long as it's in the Northern region, I will surely make a return for some delicious treats - TARTS~~~

Faithfully yours...

Being loyal to authentic English Afternoon Tea, I have never missed the chance of eating nice scones and enjoying fragrant English tea, though I can't really drink tea, a substance which I am always allergic to. However, I know that I shouldn't break the tradition by separating the universal pairing of tea and scone, I am willing to risk my 'life' by challenging my limitations again and again, bearing the nauseous feeling caused by the 'unknown' substance in tea. If you are also an afternoon tea person, you will certainly agree with me, and if you were ever in my shoes, you might be even more daring than I am.

Devonshire Cream Tea @ RM15.00

Each cream tea set comes with a pot of single serving tea

My choice of tea: Camomile
(the only tea leaf that causes the least nausea after drinking)

Two freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserves

This is how a nice scone should look like: clotted cream and strawberry preserves spread evenly between a horizontally slit scone without leaving behind a lot of crumbs on the plate.

I drink, I buy @ Full of Beans

My third visit to the Full of Beans was not only for coffee appreciation purpose or to quench the coffee 'thirst', it was mainly on purchasing the Syphon Coffee Maker which I can call my own. While I enjoyed my cup of handcrafted specialty coffee made from the Syphon, I watched the barista demonstrate the coffee making steps and acquired a better knowledge in the art of coffee making.

Ethiopian Mocha @ RM9.50

Coffee flavoured macaroon @ RM2.50

Sip your coffee your own way, munch you macaroon your own way, spend your afternoon your own way.

Tako Tao, AEON Station 18.

We spotted this stall selling tako balls in front of the supermarket. Instantly, it reminded me of the tako balls I had in Japan. I bought a box of it in spite of still feeling full after having breakfast at Kim Gary because I knew I should not miss this.

I picked octopus as the main ingredient because tako means octopus.

A box of tako balls costs RM4.80. Quite pricey, hoh?

My New Toy - Hario Coffee Syphon TCA-3

I bought another new toy a month after buying the pump-driven semi-automatic espresso machine. This Japanese made Hario Syphon brews the most awesome smooth and aromatic coffee.

Hario Coffee Syphon TCA-3 @ RM350.00

Lower Bowl

Upper Bowl

Alcohol Burner, Windbreak and Burner Cover.

Filter

Spoon Handle and Measuring Spoon

Attach the filter to the upper glass bowl stem.

Pour almost boiling water into the lower bowl, up to the desired level on the measuring scale (120 ml water per cup) and then, light the alcohol burner.

Add a level spoonful per cup (about 10g or 0.35oz) of ground coffee into the upper bowl.

Position the upper bowl by pressing lightly, without forcing: The air expanded by the heat causes the water to rise in the upper bowl.

When the water from the lower bowl rises to the upper bowl, with the spoon handle to mix lightly. And heat for 40 to 60 seconds. Since the lower bowl will then be almost empty, take extreme care NOT to overheat.

Move the stand away from the burner and extinguish the flame by placing lid on the burner. Wait for coffee to drip naturally into the lower bowl. Do NOT move the burner without extinguishing the flame.

Remove the upper bowl by gently rocking back and forth, and place it on the stand.

You now have a perfect pot of coffee to be served straight to the cup.

The perfect syphon brew is best served with a slice of peanut butter layered cake and butter egg tart.
